BYU tied for lead in WCC Commissioner's Cup

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (Dec. 3, 2012) – At the conclusion of the 2012 West Coast Conference fall sports season, BYU and the University of Portland are tied in the race for the 2012-13 West Coast Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The Cup is awarded annually to the WCC institution garnering the most success during conference play.  After winning the women’s soccer title and a share of the volleyball crown, the Cougars have earned 32.5 Cup points.  Portland is tied for the top spot after winning the men’s cross country championship and finishing second in both women’s cross country and women’s soccer.

BYU leads the women’s all-sports trophy race with 24.5 points.  In addition to first place finishes in both volleyball and soccer, the Cougars posted a third place finish in cross country. Portland is second in the women’s race with 17.5 points.
 
The University of Portland holds the top spot in the men’s all-sports trophy race with 15.0 points, after finishing first in cross country and fourth in men’s soccer.  Saint Mary’s College, the University of San Diego, and Santa Clara University are all tied for second place with 11.0 points each after the fall.
 
The WCC fall season includes men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball. San Diego and Santa Clara sit in a third place with 27.5 points each.  The University of San Francisco is fifth with 25.5 points, and Loyola Marymount University is sixth (23.0 points). Saint Mary’s College (21.0 points), Gonzaga University (19.5 points), and Pepperdine University (13.0 points) round out the standings.
 
The next update in the race for the Commissioner's Cup will come after the conclusion of the 2013 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships, held March 6-11 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
