PROVO, Utah—The Deseret First Duel kicks off the 2012-13 season with the annual Deseret First Duel Cup at Red Ledges golf course in Heber, Utah, July 31.

The Deseret First Duel was established to further promote the natural rivalry between BYU and the University of Utah—not only in football and basketball, but in other sports as well. The rivalry is widely recognized as one of the most competitive in collegiate athletics and is sponsored by Deseret First Credit Union. BYU won the 2011-12 Deseret First Duel, its third-straight victory in the duel.

Each year the Deseret First Duel Cup serves as the opening event for the upcoming athletic season.

The morning shotgun is a two-person, best-ball tournament featuring the athletic department staffs and coaches from both schools competing head-to-head.

The afternoon flight features Cougar and Ute fans playing each other in a similar format. Individuals can sign up online for $150 per person, which includes the green fee, cart, lunch, shirt, tee package, etc.

At the end of the day, scores from both flights are tallied to determine the winner of the Deseret First Duel Cup.

There are other unique opportunities for other entities to be involved in the Deseret First Duel Cup by way of sponsorships. Some details are below.
