BYU Earns 110 Scholar Athlete Awards

PROVO, Utah (June 28, 2011)—The Mountain West Conference announced its 2011 Scholar Athletes Tuesday, which included 110 student-athletes from BYU. The MWC Scholar Athletes award recognizes superior accomplishments in the classroom during the 2010-11 season.

Athletes who received the accolade had at least a 3.5 grade point average and participated in an NCAA-sponsored sport at the varsity level.

Thirty-nine athletes from the men’s and women’s track teams received the honor, along with 14 from cross country. The swimming and diving team had 15 athletes receive the accolade. On the football team, 11 players collected the scholar athlete honors.

BYU placed second in the conference in scholar athlete awards, as New Mexico took the lead with 126. Utah came in third with 78, Colorado State and Wyoming tied at 62 each and TCU had 57. UNLV took 53 awards, followed by Air Force with 51 and San Diego State with 46.
