PROVO -- Already widely recognized for their prowess on the field of competition, BYU student-athletes from five fall sports were honored Thursday for their success in the classroom. A total of 78 Cougars were named to the Fall 2011 Academic All-Mountain West Conference team.

“We have exceptional student-athletes at BYU and are thrilled with their success in athletics and in the classroom during fall semester," said BYU Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe. “Both endeavors are equally important to us at BYU and demonstrate the quality of our student-athletes.”

A total of 386 student-athletes conference-wide were named Academic All-MWC. BYU placed more student-athletes on the team than any other MWC school, followed by New Mexico (60), TCU (42), Utah (42), Wyoming (40), Colorado State (35), Air Force (32), San Diego State (30) and UNLV (27).
