Wrestlers Head to Boise State to Face No. 14 Broncos

PROVO, Utah (December 9) - The Cougars, coming off a tough defeat at the hands of Iowa last week, will have their hands full when they take on Boise State this Saturday at 2 p.m. in Boise.

The match-up will be the first dual meet of the season for the Broncos, currently ranked No. 14 in the nation. BYU occupied the No. 20 spot in last week's rankings before losing to Iowa. It was the highest the Cougars had been ranked in Coach Mark Schultz's five-year career. The Cougars and Broncos split the series last year, with each school winning one match on its home mat.

Boise returns an NCAA champion and eight starters from a team that finished second in the Pac-10 and 10th at the NCAAs in 1998-99. Kirk White, the Broncos' defending champ at 165 pounds, is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation. He will take on BYU star Rangi Smart, ranked No. 7 with a 7-0 record. Another intriguing matchup will be 7-0 Rocky Smart, ranked No. 16 at 157 pounds, versus No. 4 Larry Quisel.

The meet will be the Cougars' last competition for nearly a month. BYU will next travel to Hampton, Va. for the Virginia Duals January 7th and 8th.
