Tittle Named BYU's AD For External Relations

Duff Tittle has been appointed as BYU's Associate Athletic Director for External Relations, announced Val Hale, men's athletic director. Tittle replaces Hale who was recently promoted by university President Merrill Bateman.

Tittle will oversee media relations and marketing and will work closely with Varsity Club and Cougar Club. He will be chief spokesman for the university's athletic departments.

"Duff has been doing a great job as our Publications Coordinator for the past several years, said Hale. "He has valuable experience in the public relations field and brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the job. He will work hard to continue developing relationships with our external publics."

Tittle has nine years' experience in the communications and media relations industry, most recently as BYU's Publications and web site coordinator.

"I'm thrilled with this new opportunity and the chance to continue working with the great group of talented people we have in our department. It's a great honor for me," said Tittle. "Val has brought great vision to our department. I look forward to filling his shoes and the challenge of advancing the mission of BYU's athletic programs."

After graduation from BYU in 1990, Tittle spent three years with the American Junior Golf Association in Atlanta, as director of communications. While at the AJGA, he was responsible for the promotional and media relations efforts of the Association and its 34 national tournaments. In addition, he worked closely with a variety of golf organizations such as the PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour and the PGA of America.

From 1993 to 1996, Tittle was the media relations director at BYU-Hawaii. During his tenure there, he won several national awards for his publications, including the 1995 and 1996 Viggo O. Nelson National Publication Award for the nation's top women's volleyball publication--presented by USA Volleyball.

While at BYU, Tittle has helped increase the visibility of the school's athletic teams with his award-winning publications. He has also taught several classes in the university's communications department, including Writing for Print and Broadcast Media. He's currently teaching an introduction to desktop publishing class.

Tittle is finishing a masters degree in human resource management and development from Hawaii Pacific University. He is married to the former Sherry Miller. The couple reside in Orem with their four children Elisa, Sydney, Brett and Savannah.
