Mike Deaver Hired as BYU Marketing Director

Mike Deaver, a recent graduate of BYU's marketing communications program, has been named director of marketing for the BYU Athletic Department.

Deaver, a native of Raleigh, N.C., will oversee athletic promotions at BYU, including generating ticket sales and advertising revenue for all of the NCAA-sanctioned sports on campus. He will take over responsibilities for Dave Champlin, who held the post until last April, when he accepted a position with Sports West Productions in Salt Lake City.

Deaver brings significant marketing experience to the Athletic Department, having worked in BYU's marketing office as an intern and personal assistant to Champlin for nearly four years. During that time, Deaver was involved in promotions for most of BYU's sports, including men's volleyball and wrestling, and for basketball's Midnight Madness. Prior to accepting this position, Deaver was an account executive for Time-Warner Cable in Raleigh, N.C., where he was also a member of Raleigh's Chamber of Commerce.

"I learned a tremendous amount from my predecessor, Dave Champlin," said Deaver. "I'm very excited about working with new athletic director Val Hale, and am looking forward to helping make BYU the best athletic program in the country."

"We're excited to have Mike join our staff," said BYU athletic director Val Hale. "He has an abundance of talent, energy and creativity. His fresh perspective will be a welcomed addition to the BYU team."

Deaver served an LDS mission to San Jose, Calif., from 1991-93. He currently resides in Provo.
