Middleton to join BYU Law School staff
After more than a quarter century of dedicated service to the BYU Cougar Club, Mike Middleton will be leaving the Athletic Department to join the J. Reuben Clark Law School as assistant dean of external relations.
A summa cum laude BYU graduate, Middleton started full-time with the Cougar Club in 1994. While finishing his master's degree, Mike worked with Dale R. McCann as the Cougar Club assistant director for five years. He was appointed Cougar Club director in 1998 and named as an assistant athletic director when Cougar Club subsequently became part of the Athletic Department.
"BYU Athletics is very grateful for the 25-plus years that Mike has served so well the members of the Cougar Club," said director of athletics Tom Holmoe. "As Mike transitions to the staff of the J. Reuben Clark Law School, we wish him and his wife, Laura, the very best of success in this new endeavor. Though we will miss his many talents on a daily basis, we feel like we'll still be close to Mike through the various collaborations that will exist on campus. Mike is loyal, strong and true to his beloved Cougars and will be forever!"
Middleton oversaw the Cougar Club’s growth and progress through the administration of four different athletic directors, helping Athletics to reach unprecedented levels of success including eight of BYU’s 11 national championships.
Over the years he was involved with the development and success of programs including Courtside Cougars, the Touchdown Club, Cougar House, Annual & Endowed Athletic Scholarships, Football Loge Leasing and Cougar Strong, as well as capital campaigns for Miller Park, the Student Athlete Building, and the Marriott Center Annex.
His new duties at the Law School will include oversight of BYU Law’s Alumni Chapter, involvement with Law School events and reunions, and other development and fund-raising responsibilities. BYU Athletics wishes Mike and his family the best of luck in their new role at BYU.
Below is a letter from Mike to members of the BYU Cougar Club.
