Five BYU Athletic Department employees promoted

PROVO, Utah — BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe announced today the promotion of five athletic department employees. 

David Almodova was named associate athletic director over marketing and promotions, Chad Gwilliam as associate athletic director over compliance, Matthew Nix as associate athletic director over events & facilities, Casey Stauffer as associate athletic director over corporate sponsorships and Vince Stroud as assistant athletic director over sports camps. 

“Over the last several years, each one of these five members of our leadership team have grown in their responsibilities and played valuable roles in our athletic department,” said Holmoe. “Each is deserving of the promotion they received and I expect they will continue to have great success in their athletic administration careers.”

Almodova was hired at BYU in 2007 as the director of athletic marketing after serving as the assistant director of sports marketing and promotions at Duke University. In 2010, he was promoted to assistant athletic director at BYU. Almodova oversees several departments including marketing/data analytics, social media and creative services. A native of Laie, Hawaii, he earned a B.S. in public relations and interpersonal communications from Southern Utah University in 2002.

Gwilliam was hired as the director of compliance in 2008 after serving in the BYU Athletic Department as an assistant compliance coordinator for five years. In 2010, he was promoted to assistant athletic director. His work with the NCAA and BYU’s student-athletes, coaches, employees and boosters has created an environment of fairness and integrity throughout the department. A resident of Spanish Fork, Utah, Gwilliam graduated from Southeast Missouri State in 2002 with a B.S. in sports management and completed an MPA at BYU in 2010. 

Nix began working at BYU in 2000 as an event manager overseeing Olympic sport events and facilities. In 2010, he was promoted to assistant athletic director. During his tenure, BYU has successfully hosted numerous conference and NCAA Championships, including the 2009 NCAA Men’s Volleyball Final Four. A native of Howell, New Jersey, Nix earned two degrees from BYU: a B.S. in political science in 1999 and an MBA in 2005.

Stauffer joined the BYU Athletic Department in 2017 as the general manager of athletic corporate sponsorships. He was previously the general manager of the BYU ISP and IMG Sports property from 2006-17 and the marketing and advertising director at the BYU School of Communications from 2002-06. A native of Nampa, Idaho, Stauffer oversees the Corporate Sponsorship Team and is responsible for sponsorship sales, fulfillment and the BYU Sports Network. He holds two degrees from BYU: a B.S. in business management in 2002 and an M.A. in mass communication in 2010.

Stroud began working at BYU in 1996 in the Especially for Youth program. From 2001-10, he worked in the Division of Continuing Education as a conferences and workshops administrator and later as the assistant to the dean. In 2010, Stroud transferred to the BYU Athletic Department as the sports camp administrator where he is responsible for more than 120 sports camps and clinics held at the University each year. A native of Dothan, Alabama, Stroud received a B.S. in psychology in 1995 and an MBA degree in 2007, both from BYU.
