PROVO, Utah – BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe has announced the hiring of Bob Schirmer as associate athletic director over finance. Schirmer replaces Dallan Moody, who is leaving to pursue other business interests.

Schirmer has more than 25 years of finance and operational experience, including accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, budget administration, risk management and project management. He most recently worked as a manager of the BYU Tax Office in Regulatory Accounting and Reporting where he was responsible for managing the university’s tax compliance and assisting various departments with tax issues.

“We are pleased to have Bob join our athletic department team,” Holmoe said. “He brings a wealth of expertise and financial operations experience to our program. His understanding of the professional culture and work environment at BYU will be invaluable.”

Schirmer will manage the day-to-day financial operations of the Athletic Department, including budgeting, expenditures, internal controls, and regulatory reporting. He will also oversee the equipment managers and inventory controls for the department and work closely with the corporate sponsorship team.

Before coming to BYU in 2014, Schirmer held several positions in the tax and financial services world. His previous work experience includes the Ceridian Corporation, Intel, CNF Transportation, Arthur Anderson and the University of Utah.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the BYU athletic department family,” Schirmer said. “I’ve been passionate about athletics my whole life and look forward to contributing to the future success of the program.”

Schirmer was raised in Mandeville, Louisiana, and came to BYU as a preferred football walk-on in 1982. He served an LDS Church mission in Halifax, Canada, from 1983-85, and later received his BS and MAcc degrees from the nationally renowned BYU School of Accountancy in 1989. He is married to Michelle Rounds, who has a master’s degree in organic chemistry from BYU. They have four children and two grandchildren.
