BYU finishes 2015 fall seasons in top 10 of Directors' Cup

PROVO, Utah – After the 2015 fall seasons, BYU is 10th in the NACDA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup thanks to three conference championships and four NCAA appearances.

The Cougars' five fall sports went a combined 34-0 at home and all five sports were nationally-ranked during the season.

Men’s cross country earned 64.5 points for BYU after a 12th-place finish at nationals. The team finished the year ranked No. 6 in the nation and for the eighth-straight season were in the top 20. Coach Ed Eyestone was named WCC Coach of the Year as the men won the conference title.

The women’s cross country team earned BYU 51 points with a 23rd-place finish at nationals. They also finished the fall ranked No. 23 in the nation.

Women’s volleyball finished the season ranked No. 11 in the country after making its fourth-straight NCAA regional semifinal appearance. Alexa Gray and Amy Boswell earned All-America awards and first-year head coach Heather Olmstead was named WCC Coach of the Year. Women’s volleyball earned BYU 64 points for its berth in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.

BYU women’s soccer won its fourth consecutive WCC title and spent eight weeks ranked in the top 10 before finishing the season at No. 17. The Cougars led the nation in attendance and had an All-American, Nadia Gomes, and an Academic All-American, Sarah Chambers Gardner. Soccer earned 50 points for making it to the NCAA second round.

Football was ranked early in the season during a September where the Cougars played against top competition and beat Nebraska and Boise State. The team finished the year 9-4 and set the BYU record for the most team sacks. Freshman quarterback Tanner Magnum was also named National Freshman of the Year.

UPDATE: BYU is currently 13th in the Directors' Cup standings and are ahead of every other non-P5 school, as well as ahead of every Big 12 and SEC school. Last season, the Cougars finished 52nd in the Directors' Cup standings after finishing fall at 15th. Check out the full Directors' Cup standings here.
