Darger named Associate Athletic Director and SWA at BYU

Elizabeth Darger has been hired as a new Associate Athletic Director and the Senior Woman Administrator at BYU.

Darger, a two-time BYU graduate, was an assistant coach of the women’s basketball team at Utah Valley University for the past six years after working as the Timpanogos High School athletic director over girls sports for two years. She brings 15 years of coaching experience, as well as a decade of building successful relationships with coaches and student-athletes in the locker room and classroom.

“I am excited to welcome Elizabeth Darger to the BYU athletic department,” BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe said. “Her energy, experience in athletics and rapport with student-athletes will be a wonderful addition at BYU.”

In her time at UVU, Darger worked as the recruiting, student affairs and basketball camps coordinator for women’s basketball. She helped the team to earn the highest GPA among all Division I schools in two of her five years with the Wolverines. She mentored 29 Academic All-Conference student-athletes and each year the team made the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Academic Team Honor Roll. She helped double the participation in UVU’s basketball camps and led the team’s recruiting efforts, which resulted in a conference regular season and tournament championship, as well as three conference tournament championship appearances.

Darger worked as athletic director over girls sports for two years and was a varsity girls basketball coach and school guidance counselor for four years at Timpanogos High School. She oversaw seven athletic teams and guided students through academic eligibility requirements for graduation, college enrollment and NCAA eligibility. At both UVU and Timpanogos, she has helped hundreds of students reach their academic and athletic potential.

Darger originally graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in family science in 2000. She earned her master’s degree in school counseling psychology in 2004.

“I am thrilled to return to my alma mater and work with the talented student-athletes, coaches and staff at BYU,” Darger said. “I’m grateful to vice-president Matthew Richardson and athletic director Tom Holmoe for their confidence in giving me this opportunity to be a part of the rich Cougar tradition going forward."

The Boise, Idaho, native is one of five children and an aunt to 11 nieces and nephews.
