PROVO, Utah -- BYU Athletics will host its 11th annual Y Awards ceremony April 2 at 7 p.m. MDT at the Marriott Center, honoring student-athletes and their athletic and academic accomplishments of the past year.

For the first time in BYU history, the 2014 Y Awards event is open to the public. Admission is free. BYU Athletics requests that all wishing to attend the event be in their seats by 6:45 p.m. MDT. Dress is semiformal.

Also for the first time, BYUtv will broadcast the event live from the Marriott Center. In previous years, the event was attended only by student-athletes, their families and members of the athletics department. BYUtv previously filmed the event and broadcasted it at a later date.

Y Awards winners are selected by votes from their fellow student-athletes based on accomplishments spanning from April 2013 to March 2014. Each head coach nominates one athlete from their team for each of the categories. The Cougar Council, a group of athletes comprised of two representatives from every team, narrows down the candidates prior to the general athlete voting.

This year the show will be hosted by the cast of BYUtv's hit comedy show Studio C.
