Responsibilities

Liz Darger is the senior associate athletic director/senior woman administrator (SWA) at BYU. She serves as the sport administrator for women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s gymnastics, the spirit squads, and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field. She also oversees human resources, student-athlete welfare, gender equity and serves as a campus Title IX liaison. She serves on the West Coast Conference (WCC) Executive Council and the WCC Championships and Sport Administration Cabinet. She is also a member of the NCAA Common Ground Leadership Team, which aims to establish inclusive and respectful athletics environments for participants of all sexual orientations, gender identities and religious beliefs.

  • Enjoys showtunes and Broadway musicals, pickleball, boating on Bear Lake and traveling with family and friends

She is a Utah Women & Leadership Project Ambassador and is also an active member of Women Leaders in College Sports. Darger was recently awarded the Region 2 Administrator of the Year Award by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) and was presented the Emerging Professional Award from the Utah Women in Higher Education Network (UWHEN), the Utah affiliate of the American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network.

Before coming to BYU, Darger was an assistant coach of the women’s basketball team at Utah Valley University for six years. During her time at UVU, she worked as the recruiting, student affairs and basketball camps coordinator for women’s basketball. In that role she helped double the participation in UVU’s basketball camps and led the team’s recruiting efforts, which resulted in a conference regular season and tournament championship, as well as three conference tournament championship appearances. 

In addition, Darger helped the women's basketball team earn the highest GPA among all Division I schools twice, while being named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Academic Team Honor Roll all six years. She also mentored 29 Academic All-Conference student-athletes in six seasons. 

Prior to UVU, Darger worked as athletic director over girls sports at Timpanogos High School for two years and was a varsity girls basketball coach and school guidance counselor for four years. As the athletic director, she oversaw seven teams and guided students through academic eligibility requirements for graduation, college enrollment and NCAA eligibility.

In addition to 15 years of coaching, Darger has nearly two decades of experience building successful relationships with coaches and student-athletes in the locker room and classroom. She has also mentored and helped hundreds of student-athletes reach their academic and athletic potential.

Darger graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in family science in 2000. She earned her master’s degree in school counseling psychology in 2004, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership.

Darger is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many leadership roles within the local youth and adult organizations. She is currently serving on as a member of the Young Women General Advisory Council of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Boise, Idaho, native is one of five children and an aunt to 14 nieces and nephews.
