PROVO, Utah — After improving to 6-0 with a 52-14 victory over Texas State on Saturday, BYU football moved up in both national polls on Sunday, ranking No. 10 in the Amway Coaches Poll and No. 11 in The Associated Press Top 25.

The Cougars were last ranked in the top 10 by the coaches after starting the 2009 season 2-0 with wins over No. 3 Oklahoma and Tulane to be ranked No. 9 by the coaches and No. 7 in AP.  This year BYU is off to a 6-0 start for the first season since 2008 and the fifth time overall in school history. The Cougars also started 6-0 in 1979, 1984, 2001.

BYU moved up one place in both polls this week after being tied for No. 11 with Miami last week by the coaches and ranking No. 12 by the media. The coaches advanced BYU to No. 10 just ahead of 1-0 Wisconsin at No. 11, with Miami coming in at No. 12. The top-10 teams rated by the coaches included No. 1 Clemson (6-0) followed by Alabama (5-0), Ohio State (1-0), Notre Dame (5-0), Georgia (3-1), Oklahoma State (4-0), Cincinnati (4-0), Texas A&M (3-1), Florida (2-1) and BYU (6-0).

The AP voters rated the top eight teams the same before placing Wisconsin at No. 9 after its 45-7 season-opening win over Illinois. Florida rounded out the AP's top 10 just ahead of BYU, followed by Miami and Michigan. Boise State, BYU's opponent on Nov. 6, entered the AP rankings at No. 25 after defeating Utah State, 42-13, to start its 2020 season.

BYU has been ranked in each of the seven regular-season polls released this year. The last time the Cougars were ranked in seven consecutive weeks was in 2009 when BYU held a spot in the Top 25 the first eight weeks of the season and was ranked all but one week throughout the year while finishing No. 12 in both polls.

Prior to 2020, the last time BYU was ranked in the top 25 was during the 2018 season when the Cougars were ranked as high as No. 20 after starting the season 3-1 with a victories over Arizona on the road and No. 6 Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium.

This week BYU will host Western Kentucky of Conference USA on Saturday in an 8:15 p.m. MDT kickoff televised nationally on ESPN.
