Two Cougars take part in singles play at the ITA Texas Regional Championship

WACO, Texas — BYU sophomore Jack Barnett upset the No. 1-seeded singles player in the ITA Texas Regional Championship at the Waco Regional Tennis Center on the Baylor campus, Saturday.

Barnett beat Texas Tech’s Connor Johnson 7-5, 5-7, 6-4. In his second round matchup, he defeated No. 1-seed Sven Lah of Baylor 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (7). Barnett withdrew from the tournament due to the finals match being played on Sunday.

Senior Sean Hill won his first round match 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-3 against the University of Texas at Arlington’s Alan Sau Franco. In the next matchup, Hill battled hard vs. Baylor’s Spencer Furman but lost 7-6 (5), 0-6, 6-2.

The two BYU players were among numerous student-athletes from seven Texas universities and the University of Louisiana that competed in the ITA Texas Regional Championships this weekend.
