NEW ORLEANS – Six members of the BYU cross country program were named All-Americans following the men earning the national title and the women’s national runner-up finish at the NCAA National Championships.

Three Cougars were named All-Americans for the men’s team, including Conner Mantz, Danny Carney and Jacob Heslington—each finishing in the top 40. Sophomore Mantz led the national champions with a third-place individual finish. Carney placed 17th and Heslington followed in 21st. This was Mantz’ second All-America honor.

From the women’s team, Courtney Wayment, Erica Birk-Jarvis and Whittni Orton received All-America honors for their top 40-finishes. The three Cougars were competitive at the front of the pack for the majority of the women’s 6k. Wayment, Birk-Jarvis and Orton crossed the finish line 5-7, respectively. This is Birk-Jarvis’ third time being named an All-American and Wayment’s second. It is the highest number of All-Americans for the women’s team since 2003.

The men’s team received its first national title in school history with a score of 109 points. With 102 points and the national runner-up title, the women’s team had its best scored finish since 2002. For the first time in program history, both teams claimed a spot in the top-two at the national meet.
