Tina Gunn Robison entered BYU in 1976 as a Presidential Scholar with the intention of playing both varsity volleyball and basketball for four years. But midway through her freshman year her interest focused on one sport, and her athletic career soon received national prominence for her actions on the basketball court.
During her senior year (1979-80), Tina gained the most coveted honor in women's basketball - Kodak All-America First Team. That year she was also named to the American Women's Sports Federation First Team and the National Scouting Association All-America Team (for the second time) and was the American Women's Sports Foundation Player of the Year, the St. Petersburg Independent Florida Amateur Athlete of the Year, a Wade Trophy Finalist (for the second time), and a WBL draft pick (Milwaukee).
Tina closed out her career at the top of the NCAA Division I chart: first in the nation in scoring (31.2 ppg), first in total points (967), fourth in rebounding (14.9 rpg), and 14th in field goal percentage (59%). She holds nine BYU records, including most points in a game (56).
The Cougar Club honored her in 1979 with the Crowd Pleaser Award and in 1980 with the Outstanding Senior Award. In the summer of 1979, she played with the U.S. team at the Spartacade in the Soviet Union.
Tina graduated in 1980 with a B.S. degree in chemical engineering.
