TUCSON, Ariz. - The BYU women's soccer team recorded its first shutout of 2012 in a 1-0 victory at Arizona, Thursday.

Sophomore Jaiden Thornock got her second-straight gamewinner with a goal against the Wildcats after just 2:47 of play to give the Cougars their 1-0 lead.

Thornock's goal was the earliest scored by BYU since 2010 when Lindsi Lisonbee Cutshall netted a goal against Marquette after just 1:12 of play.

BYU has now shutout Arizona in its last five meetings and has a 10-1-1 all-time record against them.

BYU took 15 shots compared to the Wildcats' 12 in the game. Five different players led BYU by recording two shots while Arizona's Jazmin Ponce and Ana-Maria Montoya led their team with five shots apiece. The Cougars led the offensive attack in the first half, taking six shots to Arizona's three, but the Wildcats amped up their own attack in the second and the teams tied nine shots to nine.

Junior Erica Owens recorded a career-high five saves for BYU in the victory.

The Cougars continue their Pac-12 road swing on Saturday, Aug. 25, at instate rival Utah. Kick off is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. MT.
