NAPA, Calif. — Annick Haczkiewizk fired an even-par 72 to find herself in a tie for eighth place after the first round of the Silverado Showdown, while the Cougars are 15th at 310.

The senior from Las Vegas has finished in the top-25 in all three spring events and in ten rounds has posted six rounds of even-par or better.

"Understanding my swing has been key to helping me play solid golf this spring," said Haczkiewicz. "Knowing how to adjust when I get out of sync, staying in the present and being confident over the ball have been some of the things that have helped me play my best."

No. 5 ranked San Jose State leads the way posting a 1-under-par 287 to take a one-shot lead over No. 2 Oregon at 288. No. 11 Texas A&M posted a 6-over 294 and is seven shots back entering day two. Iowa State shot a 7-over 295, while Arizona rounds out the top-5  with a 9-over par 297.

BYU was not the only team to struggled on day one as only two teams in a field of 16, including five teams ranked in the top-25, finished at par or better.

"The course is challenging and putting yourself in the right spots is key," said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. "There are a lot of positives to take away from today, but we just made too many big numbers. We need to really bear down tomorrow and fight to get ourselves back into contention."

Allysha Mae Mateo posted an opening round 76 while freshman Adeline Anderson shot 80. Lila Galeai and Maddie White rounded out the scoring for BYU, both shooting 82.

The Cougars look to bounce back in the second round as they will tee it up at 8 a.m. PST with the Oregon State Beavers and the Cal Golden Bears. Live scoring for the Silverado Showdown at Silverado Resort and Spa is available at golfstat.com.
