The Mountain Regional is one of nine NCAA cross country region championships held throughout the country on Nov. 11. The top two finishing teams at each regional receive automatic bids to the NCAA Division I National Championships held at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Nov. 19. Aside from the 18 automatic qualifiers, the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee selects 13 at-large teams to fill out a 31-team field for competition at nationals.

No. 2 BYU men’s cross country will face six ranked opponents in The Duke City, including rival No. 3 Northern Arizona, No. 5 Air Force and No. 9 Colorado.

No. 6 BYU women’s cross country is one of five top-10 ranked women’s teams in the Mountain Region. Others include No. 2 New Mexico, No. 4 Northern Arizona, No. 8 Colorado and No. 9 Utah.

BYU hosted the 2021 Mountain Regional at Provo’s Timpanogos Golf Club. There, the BYU men won the region championship with four top-10 finishers in Conner Mantz, Casey Clinger, Brandon Garnica and Aidan Troutner. The BYU women took third at the meet as Anna Camp-Bennett and Aubrey Frentheway finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Both BYU programs are coming off a dominant sweep of the West Coast Conference cross country championships on Oct. 28. Clinger and Garnica led the men to a win with 18 points while Clinger also captured the individual conference crown. Frentheway’s individual women’s championship fueled the BYU women to a 30-point finish and their fifth-straight conference title.
