PROVO, Utah – The BYU men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete on the road for the first time this season at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Oregon, this Friday.

The men will compete in an 8,000-meter race and the women will follow with a 6,000-meter race.

“This meet will be a great test for our men,” head coach Ed Eyestone said. “I believe our front four, Rory LinkletterConnor McMillanClayton Young and Casey Clinger can run with the top two or three from any school in the country. It will just come down to who rises up to be our fifth man.”

The No. 6 men’s team will compete against some of the top teams in the nation including No. 2 Stanford, No. 8 Oregon and No. 18 Portland. The Cougars have maintained their preseason ranking thus far and plan to pick up their momentum as the season progresses.

"We are excited to race this weekend," associate women's head coach Diljeet Taylor said. "The ladies have been working very hard over the last month so I'm excited to see where we are at with these teams."

The No. 19 women’s team will also take on some of the top teams in the country including No. 2 Oregon, No. 5 Stanford and No. 11 Washington.

The 10 teams competing include BYU, Oregon, Gonzaga, Washington, Oregon State, Stanford, Idaho, UC Santa Barbara, Portland and Cal Poly.

“I like our chances and believe we can come back as champions,” Eyestone said.

The men’s 8,000-meter race is set to begin at 10 a.m. PT and the women’s 6,000-meter race will start at 11 a.m. PT.

Live scoring will be available here.
