PROVO -- Ambrosia Anderson sparked the Cougars scoring 16 points in the second half to lead BYU to a thrilling 76-70 victory over the Colonials of George Washington University, Monday.

BYU struggled in the first half and the Colonials finished the period with a 10-2 run to go in at the break up 28-22.

After a sloppy first half that included 14 turnovers, BYU was able to make adjustments and bounce back going on a 18-5 run to start the second half.

The game was really a tale of two halves for BYU. As a team, the Cougars shot 38 percent from the field with no trips to the free throw line. In the second half however, BYU came out more aggressive, going after loose balls and rebounds while shooting almost 61 percent from the field and going 14-16 from the line. It looked as though the Cougars would take control of the game. However, the Colonials played tough forcing additional turnovers and hitting big shots to keep the score close.

"Their guards are strong and quick," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "They were a lot better defensively than what I saw on tape."

The Cougars maintained a well-rounded scoring effort with Kristen Kozlowski putting up 14 points, Danielle Cheesman with 14, Julie Sullivan adding 13, and Mallary Gillespie contributing 11. Anderson and Sullivan now have scored in double figures in four of the last five games and Kozlowski in three of the last five.

The Colonials stayed in the game forcing 22 turnovers, 11 of them coming uncharacteristically from BYU's Sullivan. Anna Montanana came up big for the Colonials scoring 25 points with Jessica Simmonds dropping 23 on the Cougars.

"You have to give George Washington a lot of credit," Judkins said. "They came ready to play. They were hitting tough shots when they had to."

George Washington falls to 3-3 on the year.

The Cougars improved to 4-1 on the year and will travel to Hawaii to participate in Waikiki Beach Marriott Invitational. BYU plays Southeast Missouri State on December 10 at 7 p.m. and the University of Hawaii on December 11 at 4 p.m.
