PROVO, Utah —BYU women’s basketball (4-6) is at home this week for one final nonconference game. The Cougars host Montana State (6-4) Fri., Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. MDT. All kids in attendance can compete in a coloring contest for fun prizes. Cosmo Claus will be there and kids will be able to take pictures with Santa Claus.

ABOUT BYU


BYU is coming off a disappointing 70-45 loss at Cal last Saturday. The team is averaging 67.7 points and pulls down 40.4 rebounds a game. The Cougars are shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from the 3-point line and 67.5 percent from the charity stripe.

 

BYU has had at least two players score in double figures in all contests except the road game at Cal. It has outrebounded six of its opponents, has had more blocks in five games and more assists in four contests. The Cougars have scored at least 70 points in six of the 10 games played and they have a 3-2 record at home.

ABOUT MONTANA STATE


So far this season, Montana State has compiled a 6-4 record and is coming off a 59-54 overtime win over Stephen F. Austin. The Bobcats also defeated Utah State 64-52.

MSU is averaging 59.6 points per game while shooting 38.6 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from behind the arc and 68.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The Bobcats were selected to finish fourth in this year’s Big Sky Conference. BYU has also played Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington and SUU from the Big Sky league in its nonconference portion of the 2017-18 campaign.

Montana State returns seven letterwinners including three starters that compiled a 25-7 record last year and competed in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Tricia Binford is in her 13th season as the head coach of the women’s program at MSU where she has compiled a 196-166 record.

SERIES HISTORY


BYU leads the overall series 12-4 vs. MSU. When the Bobcats play in Provo they have a 2-6 record. Coach Judkins is 4-1 against Montana State.

These two teams last played on Dec. 30, 2010 in Provo with the visiting Bobcats getting the 58-49 win.

UP NEXT


After Saturday’s game, BYU begins its quest for a West Coast Conference regular-season title. The Cougars open league play on the road at Portland on Dec. 28 and at Saint Mary’s on Dec. 30.
