SAN MATEO, Calif. – For the third time this season, the West Coast Conference has selected a BYU men’s tennis duo as WCC Doubles Team of the Week. Brigham Andrus and Redd Owen earned this week’s honor after a 2-0 performance on the road versus No. 40 Texas Tech and No. 56 Oregon last weekend.

Andrus and Owen played together for the first time in their careers, entering the lineup on the No. 3 court. Their first win over Texas Tech’s Isaac Arevalo and Lorenzo Esquici came in a tiebreaker. The 7-6 (4) victory clinched the doubles point for BYU and was just the fifth time in 16 matches the Red Raiders did not win doubles.

The Cougars followed up Friday’s performance with a 6-4 win on Saturday against Oregon’s Ray Lo and Avi Shugar.

Andrus, a junior from Alpine, Utah, has won five-straight doubles matches and is 7-2 on the season. His seven wins and .778 winning percentage is the best on the team in 2023. Owen is a freshman from Sandy, Utah, and has a 4-4 doubles record in his first year of collegiate tennis.

BYU becomes the first WCC school to have three different pairings named Doubles Team of the Week. Wally Thayne and Zach Fuchs were selected on February 7 before Jack Barnett and Mateo Vereau earned the award on February 21.

The Cougars are 1-0 in conference play this season, returning to WCC play on Friday and Saturday with matches at Gonzaga and Portland.
