PROVO -- Swimmers for BYU competed against each other along with some past Cougar swimmers in the annual Blue and White Alumni meet Friday night at the Richards pool.

"I’m happy with the swimmers who competed tonight because I could tell that they had a lot of fun,” said BYU head coach Tim Powers. “They were all competing for fun and swimming in events that they usually wouldn’t - that’s really what this meet is for. It was also really neat to see some of our graduates competing.”

Alumni competitors consisted of Kurt Dickson who is swimmer Kelsey Dickson’s father, Skip Brooks who is coach John Brooks’ father, David Mason, Jan Pickens, Peter Brooks, Kirsty Ferrell and Joanna Swenson.

For the first event, the white team took the win in the 200-medley relay. Moving to individual events, Michelle Menezes and captain John Kendrick of the white team both took first in the 200 free.

The white team continued its winning streak earning first place points for both men and women in the 200 individual medley.

The blue team finally got a win as Taryn Toolson grabbed first in the 50 free while captain Christian Keil of the white team recorded the first place win for the men.

The 100 butterfly went to the blue team as Kim Welch and Vytenis Slenys captured first place wins. The white team took back the lead as Rachel Grant and Jake Taylor took first place wins in the 100 free.

Alina Fong and Dallin Johnson of the blue team were the winners of the 500 free.

In the 100 back, captain Sara Jayne Baldwin of the blue team took first and Keil recorded the win for the white team. The 100 breast was another blue and white combo as Kassy Bispo of white and Chad Sorenson of blue took first.

Diving contributed blue and white combinations in both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions.

Although the blue team ended the meet on a win in the 200 free relay, the white team had built up a comfortable lead finishing 201-189.

The Cougars will travel to California next weekend for the Pacific Invite on Oct.15-16.
