Dominguez and Puertas compete at FINA World Championships

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — BYU swimmers Josue Dominguez and Tony Puertas traveled to Abu Dhabi to compete in the FINA World Swimming Championships.

Dominguez represented the Dominican Republic and competed in the 100-meter breaststroke on Thursday. He swam a 58.44 in his preliminary heat, placing 22nd out of the 63 athletes who competed. The swim enabled him to beat his own Dominican Republic national record of 1:00.68. Dominguez currently holds national records in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter breaststroke.

Puertas represented Peru and competed in the 100-meter backstroke. He recorded a time of 52.98, placing 48th out of 83 swimmers.
