PROVO, Utah – Members of BYU swim and dive competed against swimmers and divers from previous years in their annual Alumni meet Friday afternoon at the Richards Building Pool.

“This was one of the highest turnouts we’ve ever had for an alumni meet,” said head coach John Brooks. “Having a new pool brings excitement, with people wanting to swim and enjoy the new pool.”

“We’re so grateful that so many came back and hope they come back for years to come and continue to contribute to the program,” Brooks added. “We’re also grateful for those who helped pay for the videoboards that will have longevity for a long time to come. I also want to thank my athletes who swam all the events I asked them to swim today.”

The swim team competed in many short events and relays while the dive team hosted a non-scored event where they were able to practice before their first competition. The Cougars were able to learn from and interact with former swimmers and divers, preparing them for their upcoming meets.

With many familiar faces in the pool, assistant coach Jordan Fletcher was also in the mix, competing in several events and keeping up with the current swimmers. Fletcher and former swimmer Preston Jenkins kicked off the meet for the men in the 200-yard medley relay. They helped their team take first with a time of 1:31.16 and left the current Cougars trailing behind for second.

The teams will be back at the Richards Building Pool to swim against each other at the Blue and White meet on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 9 a.m. MDT.
