FARMINGTON, Utah – BYU golfer Tyson Shelley is tied for seventh after the opening 36 holes of the Korn Ferry Utah Championship at Oakridge Country Club on Friday.

During Thursday’s first round, Shelley found himself two-under par at the turn and made four more birdies on the back side to finish with a 6-under-par 65.

After 18 holes, the rising junior sat in a tie for ninth. He then repeated his six-under performance on Friday in round two, making six birdies and playing 36 holes of bogey-free golf to open the tournament.

Shelley’s 12-under-par, 130, puts him in a tie for seventh as he prepares to play the weekend in his first Korn Ferry Tour start.

Cougar alumni, Carson Lundell, will also be moving on to the weekend as he carded rounds of 7-under-par and 3-under-par, making a total of 11 birdies and an eagle.

2022 Utah State Amateur Champion Zac Jones also played in the first two rounds (69-71—140; -2) after qualifying at this week’s Monday Qualifier at Bonneville Golf Club but missed the 5-under cut.

Lundell will begin his third round at 1 p.m. MDT on Saturday while Shelley will tee off at 2:30 p.m. Live scoring is available at pgatour.com. Spectator information can be found at utahchampionship.com.
