KAUA’I, Hawai’i — BYU men’s golf finished fourth at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate after a 5-over-par final round Saturday at the Ocean Course at Hokuala.

New Mexico (281-274-284—839) posted a 4-under par final round to secure the team title at 25-under par. Arizona (275-277-296—848) finished in second, nine shots behind the Lobos, after an 8-over par final round followed by Utah (284-289-280—853) in third.

BYU (285-280-293—858) finished fourth at the 18-team tournament with 6-under-par total. Texas A&M (290-286-284—860) who shot 4-under in the final round to finish 4-under for the tournament rounded out the top 5.

"We were hoping to shoot our best round of the week and unfortunately we just didn't get it done today," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. "We got off to a slow start and weren't able to take advantage of the par-5s early in the round. Overall, this week was a good experience for the guys and we know where we need to improve before the Lamkin in a few weeks."

University of California’s Aaron Du took home the individual title after posting rounds of 66-67-70—203 to win by two shots over Sam Bennett of Texas A&M and New Mexico’s Sam Choi.

Carson Lundell continued his consistent play with his third top-10 finish of the season and his sixth tournament in the top-25. He finished in a tie for 10th after rounds of 71-68-72—211.

Tyson Shelley fired rounds of 73-68-73—214 to finish three shots back of Lundell in a tie for 17th. After rounds of 71-73-73—217, Cole Ponich finished the tournament in a tie for 28th.

Zac Jones carded rounds of 75-71-75—221 and David Timmins shot 70-76-77—223. Elijah Turner, playing as an individual, finished with rounds of 75-72-75—222.

The Cougars have two weeks off before they tee it up at the Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club on March 7-8.
