PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golf travels to Lihue, Kaua’i, to tee it up at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Ocean Course at Hokuala on Feb. 17-19.

“It's nice to get the guys out of the snow and into the warm weather to see how we handle the wind and challenging conditions,” said head coach Bruce Brockbank. “We are playing a new course on the island of Kaua’i this year that I’ve heard will be a real challenge. The Burns always brings a strong field, and we are excited to get back out and compete.”

The Cougars are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate where Carson Lundell and Cole Ponich both finished in the top-15.

BYU will travel Lundell, Ponich, Tyson Shelley, Zac Jones and David Timmins to Hawai’I for the event with Elijah Turner competing as an individual.

The Cougars will take on host Hawai’I, Arizona, Cal, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara, Texas A&M, UC Irvine, UNLV, USC, Utah, UTEP and Washington State.

BYU has taken home the team title at the John A. Burns Invitational three times in the tournament’s history, in 1977, 2000 and 2007. There have been four Cougars who have earned individual honors at the Burns as well. Pat McGowan and Bobby Clampett won back-to-back championships in 1977 and 1978 followed by Justin Keiley in 2014 and Peter Kuest in 2019.

The tournament is 54-hole stroke play event with 18-holes played each day on the 7,156 yard Ocean Course at Hokuala beginning with an 8:30 AM HST shotgun. Live Scoring will be available at golfstat.com
