Fletcher wins October WCC Runner of the Month honors

SAN BRUNO, CALIF. – The West Coast Conference has named BYU's Aaron Fletcher as its Men’s Runner of the Month for October 2015.

BYU senior Fletcher is continuing to have a season to remember, leading the Cougars' cross country team to an almost perfect scored victory at the WCC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31. Fletcher captured the first place individual finish with an 8k time of 24:40.1. Four of his teammates finished close behind resulting in a near perfect score of 17 points making a clear statement as to why the Cougars are currently ranked nationally at No. 3.

Fletcher, a team captain for the Cougars, has scored in the top two for BYU in each race this year. He placed sixth overall at the Washington Invitational, with a time of 23:27.0, on Oct. 2. In BYU’s final race prior to the conference meet, he took 18th overall (23:52.1) at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 16. The meet featured 17 of the nation’s top 30 ranked teams at the time, and the Cougars’ second place team finish helped vault them into the top five of the national rankings.

Sept. 5: BYU Autumn Classic, 2nd overall, 19:48.5 (4 miles)

Sept. 19: WCC Preview, 2nd overall, 24:20.6 (8k)

Oct. 2: Washington Invitational, 6th overall, 23:27.0 (8k)

Oct. 16: Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, 18th overall, 23:52.1 (8k)

Oct. 31: WCC Championships, 1st overall, 24:40.1 (8k)
