OJAI, Calif. — BYU women’s tennis saw its season come to an end with a 4-3 loss to San Francisco Thursday in the opening round of the West Coast Conference Tournament.

It was the second consecutive match for the Cougars where they led 3-2 with two singles matches left to play. Unlike last week when the Cougars picked up the thrilling win, this time their opponent won both of the final matches to secure the victory.

BYU won the doubles point, after some spirited play in tight matches. The teams then split the first four singles matches, with Leah Heimuli and Bobo Huang picking up wins for the Cougars to make it 3-2. Both Emilee Astle and Xenia De Luna took the final two singles matches into third sets, and De Luna held a late 4-3 lead in the third set, but the Cougars couldn’t quite hold on.

The Cougars finish the season with an overall record of 11-15. They ended the season strong, winning four of their last six matches.
