Monterey Calif--Sophomore Carrie Summerhays shot a final round score of 79 and Junior Summer Pierce carded a final round 80 in BYU's bid at the Spartan Invitational in Monterey California.

Excessive rain this week contributed heavily to the cougars struggle in this years Spartan Invitational. It rained so much that the grounds crew had to squeegy off the greens prior to final round play.

"A rain squall came through with about three holes to go and delayed play for one hour," said BYU head coach Gary Howard. The more the rain came the less the putts fell for Byu.

"We had trouble again today making the four to five footers," Howard said. Despite the cougar's struggles their final round score of 321 moved them up to an 11th place finish and was a 29 shot improvement over last years performance.

"They didn't quit, but played hard under tough conditions," said Howard. Nicole Parry and Teal Thorn both fired 81's with Adrianne Gibby finising with an 82. BYU will gear up for next week's Pioneer/ Bruin Classic, March 13th and 14th, in Menetee California.
