Road Loss Ends Winning Streak

Image

LARAMIE -- The BYU Cougars shot an amazing 90 percent from the charity stripe but couldn't quite keep the lead in its first loss in conference play against the Wyoming Cowgirls with a 54-69 ending score.

"We didn't execute our game plan," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "We missed some easy shots that we should've made. We need to learn to play better offensively and defensively."

The Cougars started the first half strong shooting 83 percent in the first five minutes, missing only one field goal, compared to Wyoming's 38 percent to take a 5-point lead.

Tough three-point shooting plauged the Cougars as they went 1-12 from the line compared to the Cowgirls' 12-27. The Cowgirls currently lead the MWC in 3-point shooting percentage.

The Cowgirls took their first lead of the game after just two minutes of play in the second half after a free-throw from Randi Richardson. Richardson finished with seven points and two rebounds.

In every game this season, at least two BYU players have scored in double-figures. Against Wyoming, two Cougars scored in double-figures. Haley Hall and Alexis Kaufusi both finished with 11 points.

The Cougars will play next at home in the Marriott Center on Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. against San Diego State.
