NORTHRIDGE -- The eighth-ranked BYU men's volleyball team remained undefeated on the season, knocking off No. 11 Cal State Northridge on Friday in three straight games, 30-28, 30-25, 34-32. With their fourth three-game win in five matches, the Cougars improve to 5-0, 2-0 on the season, while the Matadors drop to 3-6, 0-4.

Three Cougars recorded double figures, including Mike Wall with a team-high 14 kills on the night. Jaime Mayol racked up a season-high 13 kills, while Scott Bunker chipped in 10. The potent BYU offense hit .477 on the night, recording 55 kills on 88 swings. BYU hit .556 (17-2-27) in game one and rallied in game-three, hitting a sizzling .567 (21-4-30) in game three after being out-hit .323 (17-7-31) to .333 (12-3-27) in game two. Hector Lebron paced the offense with a match-high 50 assists.

Defensively, the Cougars out-blocked its opponent for the fifth-straight match, producing 14 blocks to the Matador's nine. Matt Olsen led the BYU defense, picking up four block assists in the match, while Bunker added two block assists and one solo. Libero Fernando Pessoa was credited with a match-leading seven digs on the night.

After a perfect two-match road trip this week, including a decisive 3-0 win over USC on Wednesday, the Cougars will return to Provo, looking to keep their perfect record intact when they play host to MPSF foe UC San Diego on Friday and Saturday Feb. 9-10. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m. (MST) in the Smith Fieldhouse.
