SPOKANE, Wash. – After a tough loss to Portland on Friday, BYU men’s tennis bounced back in conference play with a 4-0 win over Gonzaga at the Stevens Center on Saturday.

"Gonzaga was a gracious host today and fought hard," BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. "We secured the doubles point and played well enough to get the win with our singles play. I was proud of the way we bounced back after a tough match yesterday. We're coming home on a high note! It will be nice to be home next Friday against Saint Mary's for Senior Day."

Sophomore Matthew Pearce and freshman Sam Tullis teamed up for the first win of the day for BYU (12-9, 5-1 West Coast Conference) with a 6-1 victory over Ronzai Saurombe and Simon Homedes-Dualde on court three. Kyle Everly and Vincent Rettke fought back for Gonzaga (6-8, 0-4 WCC) to take down Jacob Sullivan and Aidan Carrazedo 6-4, before Keaton Cullimore and John Pearce pulled out a 7-5 win over Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Fiet to clinch the doubles point.

PROVO, Utah – After a dominating win over San Diego at home, BYU men’s tennis travels to the Pacific Northwest to take on Portland and Gonzaga this weekend.

BYU (11-8, 4-0 West Coast Conference) earned its fourth-straight WCC victory after defeating San Diego for the first time in four years. Jacob Sullivan and John Pearce posted wins in both doubles and singles as Pearce’s 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Torero’s Guus Koevermans at the No. 4 slot sealed the match 4-0 for the Cougars.

Portland (12-1, 2-0 WCC) picked up a pair of road wins against San Francisco and Santa Clara to open conference play last weekend. The Pilots are riding an eight-match win streak and have won 16 consecutive matches at home. Last year, No. 58 BYU took down No. 72 Portland 5-2 in Provo.

Gonzaga (6-6, 0-2 WCC) also opened conference play on the road last weekend but fell to both Santa Clara and San Francisco. Last season, the No. 58 Cougars swept the Zags 4-0 at home.

BYU plays Portland on Friday, March 31, at 10 a.m. PDT at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center and Gonzaga on Saturday, April 1, at 12 p.m. at the Stevens Center. Results will be posted to the BYU men’s tennis schedule page
