PROVO, Utah – BYU left Colorado after a tough meet Saturday against Denver University, where both the men and women’s teams were unable out-touch the Pioneers.

“Our men swam really well on Friday, but we just weren’t as sharp for this meet,” said BYU head swim coach Tim Powers. “Denver was swimming better times than we’ve seen from them and getting season bests, so they were definitely prepared for this meet.”

Highlights from this meet include the first place finish of the women’s 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.79. Members of the relay included Hailey Campbell, Kassandra Bispo, Kim Welch and Taryn Toolson.

Alia Welsh recorded a second place time of 1:52.82 in the women’s heat of the 200 free.

Campbell grabbed second place in the 100 backstroke with 56.28, while Jordan Fletcher did the same in the men’s heat with his time of 50.45.

Welch swept the 100 and 200 butterfly, taking first in the 200 with a time of 2:04.99 and first in the 100 with her time of 56.86.

Toolson had a good showing in the 50 and 100 free, recording times of 23.68 and 52.89 for the second place finish in both races.

With a time of 2:22.17, Londyn Clawson swam for first place in the 200 breaststroke.

The men’s team of Stott Bushnell, Samuel Bates, David Armstrong and Garret Beaman finished strong in the 400 free relay touching in at a first place time of 3:04.41.

Brandon Watson swept the boards, scoring 344.55 in the 1-meter and 394.85. Dana Christensen accomplished first place in the women’s 1-meter with her score of 267.55, while teammate Haley Francois scored 259.40 for second place.

The swim and dive team will see rival Utah at home on Friday, Jan. 27 as the last home meet and season finisher.
