Born in Long Beach, Calif....parents are Ed and Kim Hoke and Frank and Cathy Winger...a BYU fan since his childhood...married to the former Jaimee Hennefer in June, 1998... sons Cade, Nate and Lincoln ... daughters Chloee and Aubree ... served an LDS Church mission to Brussels, Belgium...is an Eagle Scout...recruited by UCLA, Utah and Colorado State...majoring in communications.

Before BYU

Prepped at Foothill High...lettered three times in football and track...three-time league champion in shot put...football team went undefeated in league and was a CIF quarterfinalist...named first team All-CIF twice, All-Orange County twice, all-league three times, league defensive player of the year and all-region in football...coached by Tom Meiss (Illinois).

Freshman Year 1997

Was second-unit...had good games against Hawai`i and UTEP.

Sophmore Year 1998

Chalked up 37 tackles, including seven assisted and a 30 unassisted...tallied five tackles for a total loss of 20 yards...recorded five hurries and three sacks...ranked 12th on the BYU roster with a total of 72 defensive points...helped guide the BYU defense to a top ranking in the WAC in both rushing and total defense.

Junior Year 1999

Named Academic All-Mountain West Conference...finished third on the BYU roster with a career-high 51 tackles, including 13 takedowns for a combined loss of 59 yards...tallied 27 unassisted and 24 assisted tackles...credited with six sacks for minus-44 yards...recovered one fumble and tallied two quarterback hurries on the season...recorded five or more tackles in four games as a junior, including back-to-back, five-tackle contests against Air Force and UNLV...recorded at least three tackles in all but one game on the season...selected by the BYU coaches as the defensive line player of the game for his performances against Virginia and Air Force.

Senior Year 2000

All-Mountain West Conference Second Team ... MWC All-Academic Team ... coaches defensive lineman of the game against Virginia, Utah State, San Diego State and New Mexico ... recorded 51 tackles on the year, including 25 unassisted ... had 15 tackles for loss ... recorded five sacks ... recovered a fumble against New Mexico.
