Parents are Gary and Sherry...served a mission to Argentina...brother Darren played on BYU's junior varsity in 1989...Eagle scout...married to Melinda Bennett...recruited by Utah, Southern Cal and Colorado...majoring in psychology.
Before BYU
Prepped at Alta High, where he lettered three times in football, twice in wrestling and four times in track...scored 6,645 points in the decathlon, thre the discus a school record 165-8, high jumped 6-6 1/2, long jumped 22-2 1/2 and ran a 49 flat in the 400 meters...was a tight end, defensive back and running back...4-A MVP and all-region...won the Bobby Dodd Player of the Year Award and the Coca-Cola Gold Helmet Award...team won the state title...coached by Doug Berry (Southern Utah).
Played on special teams...caught a seven-yard pass against Utah State.
Injured his shoulder in the spring...placed fourth in the WAC decathlon...started against Utah State.
