Before BYU
Lettered in football, basketball, track and wrestling...football honors included three years all-conference, two years all-state and one year All-America...coached at Highland High by Randy Rehrer.
Traveled with the varsity.
Participated in spring drills...started at right tackles against Florida State, UCLA and Penn State, then backed up Tom Ladd.
Started at left guard in BYU's first three games...replaced Eli Herring as starting left tackle at Hawai'i and the remainder of the season...coaches' offensive lineman of the game vs. UCLA.
