Prepped at Monte Vista High, where he lettered in track and football...team won two Foothill Conference championships...a two-time conference champion in the 400 intermediate hurdles and was conference champion in the 110 hurdles.

A two-time All-American at Grossmont Junior College (El Cajon, California)...twice named All-California...caught 41 passes for 1,148 yards and 14 TD's...ranks second in the junior colleges for career receiving yards (2,358) and TD passes (28)...coached by Jim Symington (San Diego State).
Started three games...caught eight passes including a 37-yard TD reception against Washington...long reception of 47 yards set up the winning score against New Mexico.
