Parents are Hal and Joyce...brother, Randy, was an offensive lineman at BYU...served an LDS mission to Denver, Colorado...married Therese Claborn in April, 1985...they have a son...recruited by Oklahoma and Oklahoma State...majoring in business education.

Before BYU

Attended East Central High, where he was a member of the school Hall of Fame and was a Boys State representative...played football two years and wrestled three...undefeated as a heavyweight wrestler as a junior and lost only one match as a senior...holds the state record for consecutive pins (47)...was ranked as the top prep heavyweight wrestler in the country by Amateur Wrestling News...coached by John Hogan (Northeastern State).

BYU Hall of Fame

Freshman Year 1982

Played jayvee ball before going on his mission.

Sophmore Year 1985

Played offensive tackle in several games as a backup...was BYU's heavyweight wrestler and finished second in the WAC meet.

Junior Year 1986

Injured his back wrestling and missed spring practice...backed up Chris Matau at left guard and saw spot duty throughout the season.
