Parents are James and Una...served an LDS mission to Anaheim, California...majoring in business communications.

Before BYU

Was all-state quarterback at Skyline High...received two letters in football and two in baseball...led his team to the state 4A championship...recipient of the Coca Cola Golden Helmet and was a participant of the Cerebral Palsy state all-star team..coached by Ken Schmidt (Utah), who currently coaches BYU's linebackers.

Other College

Attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho...earned second team all-conference honors his freshman year...was first team all-conference and first team all-region his sophomore year...chosen team offensive MVP...selected second team All-American and listed in Who's Who in American Junior Colleges in 1983.

Played well in spring and ended up as the third string quarterback...saw some mop-up action with the varsity...threw three passes, completing two for 26 yards.

Senior Year 1986

Projected starter going into fall practice...was eight of 15 for 68 yards in spring game...would be first returned missionary to start at quarterback for LaVell Edwards...also would be first senior to start for only one year.
