Before BYU

Prepped at Olympus High, where he was coached by Dave Wiseman ... was team MVP and lettered three times ... was all-state and all-region.

Coached by Jack Hodges at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California ... made the dean's list and was All-Orange Empire Conference ... batted .350 with seven homers as a sophomore and played in the California JC Championships ... recruited by Utah, Pepperdine, San Diego State, Georgia, and Tulane.

Started 34 of his 36 games last year at catcher and hit 10 doubles ... got off to a good start and was the team's leading hitter at .458 through his first seven games until he suffered a broken toe at Cal-Berkeley ... selected co-captain for BYU.

Senior Year 2002

His .985 career fielding percentage finished fifth in in the BYU career record books (min. 500 chances) ... homered in BYU's victory at the University of Pacific ... had a key double down the leftfield line in one of BYU's victories at UNLV ... doubled down the leftfield line again to give BYU its go-ahead run in the first victory in Provo over UNLV ... another double down the leftfield line tied the score in the ninth to force an extra inning against New Mexico in Provo ... hit a two-out triple in the eighth inning in BYU's 1-0 loss at Notre Dame ... his tag in the eighth inning ended San Diego State's comeback attempt in the first of two Cougar victories over SDSU in the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
