Martinez carries Cougars through Mt. SAC

WALNUT, Calif.—Freshman Shea Martinez made a big impression that led the women’s track team at the Mt. Saint Anthony’s College (SAC) Relays this weekend.

“It’s been a really good couple of days,” head coach Ed Eyestone said. “We had some big time performances and hopefully that can really slingshot us to a great rest of the season.”

Martinez banked a fifth-place finish in the open 1500m, which had more than 140 competitors. Martinez ran in the open 1500m section and finished with a time of 4:21.78. She also competed in the 800m and finished with a time of 2:10.06.

Andrea Nelson Harrison competed in the invitational elite section of the 3000m steeplechase and finished with a mark of 10:16.08. Nicole Nielsen ran in the open section of the 5000m and finished with a time of 16:51.01. Jennica Redd finished in fourth place in the open section of the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:31.14.

Next weekend the Cougars host the BYU Robison Invitational April 23-26 at the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex.
