Netters Gear Up for Home Tripleheader

PROVO, Utah -- The BYU women’s tennis team welcomes Air Force, Colorado State and No. 72 Wyoming to the BYU tennis courts for a weekend tripleheader as conference play continues.

The team will play Air Force Thursday at noon, Colorado State Friday at noon and Wyoming Saturday at noon.

The Cougars (6-8, 1-1) went 1-1 last weekend, falling to No. 65 TCU but defeating New Mexico. Elizaveta Ezhova defeated both her singles opponents and one of her doubles opponents, leading the Cougars for weekend play.

Freshman Callie Craig, a native of Orem, Utah, leads the Cougars with an 18-11 singles record and a 17-9 doubles record with partner Megan Price. Craig went 3-0 against Wyoming opponents during fall play.

After two straight losses, Air Force comes to BYU with a 14-6, 0-2 record. Tahlia Smoke and Sarah Cassman lead the team with 18-13 and 19-15 singles records, respectively. Smoke teams up with Melissa Cecil for a 22-11 doubles record.

For CSU (7-7, 0-2) Veronika Wojakowska leads in singles with a 15-12 record. The Rams lost their first two conference matches to No. 45 San Diego State and No. 48 UNLV.

Wyoming (10-5, 0-2) also lost to SDSU and UNLV last weekend, but maintained its national ranking. Kim van Ginkel and Simona Synkova hold a 16-7 doubles record and Ginkel has earned a 19-7 singles record.

Admission is free. Spectators may park in “Y Lot” parking lots to the west of the tennis courts for Saturday’s match.
