Cougars Spoil Cowgirl Home Opener

STILLWATER -- Freshman Lauren Jones led the No. 22 BYU women's tennis team to it's fourth straight win on the road over the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State 4-0. The win moves the Cougars to 11-3 on the season.

The Cougars got off to an early start and never looked back, winning the doubles point with wins from Barbora Zahnova and Sofia Holden, Hadley Macfarlane and Olga Boulytcheva, and Rebecca Pike and Nicole Schneider. The win by Pike/Schneider keeps the Australian duo undefeated in doubles play.

At the No. 3 singles position, Jones had an impressive win over Ines Furtmayr of Oklahoma State. Jones defeated Furtmayr in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Barbora Zahnova also won at the No. 1 spot in two sets as she dualed to a victory against Katya Kolodynska in a 6-3, 6-2 decision.

The Cougars also saw victories at the No. 2 and 4 positions as Holden and Boulytcheva dropped their opponents in two straight.

The remaining three matches were not finished because the dual outcome had been determined.

Teh BYU women's tennis team will travel to Norman, Okla. tomorrow to face a tough Oklahoma team beginning at 12:30 p.m. CST.
