PROVO -- At the end of the three-day Invitational, the BYU women's tennis team came away with some tough wins and sense of confidence early in the season.

"This was a great competition for our girls," head coach Craig Manning said. "Overall, it was a great week. I thought our girls did a great job and had some good wins. We had some disappointing losses, but they all played hard, especially against some tough competition."

The first two days brought much success with difficult wins for the women's singles players as each Cougar went undefeated for the first two rounds.

The three doubles teams held strong in the first day of play. The second round brought some tough losses as only team advanced to the final draw. BYU's Rebecca Pike and Lauren Jones defeated Nelly Dvornicka and Zorana Roganovic of Washington State 8-1.

The three singles winners of the tournament were Barbora Zahnova, Lauren Jones and Hadley McFarlane. The lone doubles team to come off with a win was Lauren Jones and Rebecca Pike.

For the second consecutive year, Jemima Haywood and Erin Polowski of Boise State have walked away with the doubles final win. BYU's Barbora Zohnova and Sofia Holden fell to the Boise State duo 8-2.

In the Invitational of 2002, the BYU women's tennis team only had one player make it to the finals, Dominique Reynolds who lost to Sanja Hansson of Colorado State in a hard fought match. This year, with three singles wins and a doubles win, coach Manning is pleased with the effort of each girl.
