BYU Finishes Off Homestand With Three Matches

PROVO -- The No. 44 BYU women's tennis team goes for its second win in a row and fourth in five matches Friday at 6 p.m. against No. 41 Kansas State. The Cougars (5-7, 1-0) will then play Rice at 11 a.m. Saturday and No. 29 Texas Christian University Monday at 3 p.m. to conclude a seven-match homestand.

BYU is coming off an impressive win against Southern Methodist University, 6-1. The doubles teams for BYU came out strong and swept the matches to give BYU the early lead and the confidence to finish off the Mustangs.

"We've had these doubles teams for a while now and we're going to stick with them the rest of the year," BYU head coach Craig Manning. "We're playing a lot better now and the girls are getting better all the time."

The Wildcats (7-3) should prove to be stiff competition for the Cougars.

"Kansas State is going to be tough," Manning said. "They're getting better every year."

According to the rankings, the Cougars will have their toughest match Monday afternoon against TCU. BYU played Washington State when WSU was the No. 29 team in the country and narrowly lost the match. The Cougars hope to turn the tide and come out on top this time.

This weekend's matches will conclude BYU's home regular season. The Cougars will host the Mountain West Conference Championships Apr. 25-27, but will play the remainder of their conference schedule on the road.
